For sale a pair of (2) iconic Charles & Ray Eames DSS Plastic Side Chairs produced under license in Germany by Vitra in the year 2000.
With light grey Polypropylene shell seats (dyed through) and chrome, stackable bases, this often copied chair is a modernist icon and is based on the original 1950 Fibreglass version which was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.
The chairs come with original labels (dated 2000) and with the Eames Vitra stamp into underside of the plastic seats and are in really good used condition with marks and scratches to the seats, commensurate with 14 years of age and use (see pics). The legs and joints are firm, solid and undamaged and the chrome is bright and clean. Apart from the minor marks and scratches there are also marks on both seats, where they would have come into regular contact with the edge of a table (see pic for example), but this does’t detract in the least from the look or the strength of the chairs.
