Offered here is a stunning Italian Mid-Century ‘BRUMBURY’ table lamp, designed by Luigi Massoni for Harvey Guzzini in 1969 — a standout piece from the golden age of Italian Modern design. Featuring its iconic dome-shaped acrylic diffuser and a sleek lacquered metal and chrome base, the lamp gives off that unmistakable warm, ambient glow Guzzini became famous for. With its sculptural silhouette and retro-futuristic charm, the Brumbury is more than a lighting piece — it’s a statement object, ready to bring character to any interior. A true collector’s piece from the era when Italian design ruled the night.

The lamp holds four bulbs: one uplight housed in the internal chamber, within the central dome of the shade and 3 bulbs radially disposed under the outer tier of the shade, with the inner bulb and the outer ones controlled independently through the original, Achille Castiglioni designed, double in-line switch.

The lamp is presented in fair to good condition, consistent with over 55 years of age and use, and remains fully functional. The acrylic dome shade presents beautifully but has two notable areas to highlight: three spots of heat damage, a common occurrence with these lamps due to improper bulb use in the past, and a crack to the outer rim, which does not affect the structural integrity or stability of the piece. The chrome base is clean with some light marks and speckling, while the rubber washer between the base and trunk is perfectly intact — a detail often missing or degraded in other examples. The white central body shows only minor spotting, which is subtle and does not detract from the lamp’s overall presence. Despite these signs of age, the piece retains all of its impact, charm and sculptural appeal. A rare and iconic design with authentic patina — see photos and video for full visual reference.

Luigi Massoni (1930–2013) was a key player in the golden age of Italian design, known for blending function, elegance, and innovation with an unmistakably sleek, modernist touch. Originally trained as an architect, Massoni became a driving force behind Italy’s post-war design boom, creating everything from furniture to lighting and industrial products that were as stylish as they were practical. He worked with major names like Guzzini, Poltrona Frau, and Boffi. His designs often featured bold materials, curved forms, and a futuristic edge, making them both utilitarian and visually striking. Massoni’s work was never about excess — it was about refined simplicity, where every element had a purpose and every silhouette told a story. Today, he’s celebrated as one of the unsung heroes of Italian modernism — the kind of designer whose pieces speak softly but flex hard.
