Pair of Original Mid-Century Charlotte Perriand “CP1” Wall Lights, France 1960s →

Price : Sold
Maker : Roland Jamois Luminaires
Country : France
Designer : André Cazenave

Offered here is a vintage Mid-Century “Dora” Moon Rock table/floor lamp, designed by André Cazenave and edited by Roland Jamois Luminaires, France, circa 1980s.

Designed in 1969, the DORA lamp is a lighting ‘object’ that beautifully merges art and function. Consisting of a fibreglass body and coated in marble powder, these wonderfully sculptural lamps were produced in many sizes and shapes and were manufactured by several different makers, notably Atelier-A and Roland Jamois in France and Singleton in Italy, at varying times over the late 1960s, the 1970s and on into the 1980s. Each ‘DORA’ lamp is unique due to its handmade nature, with variations in size and finish. They can function as both floor and table lamps, adding an organic, atmospheric touch to any space.

In good vintage condition, with patina commensurate with 40+ years of age, adding to its character. Of note, the light has a few faint stains, but absolutely nothing to detract (see photos). The lamp works well, is controlled via its original inline switch, but is missing a metal plate, on the inside, that would usually be clipped onto the lamp holder and carrying the maker’s label. This doesn’t affect the lamp’s aesthetic or function in any way.

André Cazenave (1928–2003) was a French designer known for blurring the lines between functional design and sculptural art, most famously through his luminous stone-like “DORA” lamps. Trained as a sculptor, Cazenave brought a highly tactile, organic sensibility to his lighting designs, creating pieces that felt as much like natural objects as they did modernist décor. Working primarily in the 1960s and ’70s, Cazenave used unconventional materials like fibreglass and marble powder to mimic the textures of nature while diffusing soft, ambient light. His work reflects a deep interest in materiality, form, and the poetic potential of everyday objects — a legacy that continues to captivate collectors and designers alike.
